I agree that it's crazy, Tracey. But I think the marketing plans you have, e.g., Silver Dagger, BBWs' interviews, etc., are good choices Why? Because they make you happy that you are doing what feels right for YOU. Does anyone have the marketing "magic bullet"? I think not.
So true, Sherrill. I think the best marketing is what works for the individual. Do what makes you feel comfortable. Focus on the things that work with your unique style. I think if you stick with that, you can do it well and get decent results!
Sadly, I've gotten increasingly cynical in the last five years about the whole marketing process, as you might know. We make so little from all our hard work while we, in my opinion, shove $$$ into the hands of marketers. What are the long-term ROIs for this--both in sales and a lasting fanbase? I don't know. And do those matter since I'm more concerned about focusing on the joy of creation? All those factors have made me greatly fine-tune and limit my marketing selections. Quality, not quantity.
Wish I could give you advice based upon solid metrics. I chased Facebook ad for over a year. For every dollar I spent, I got back 60 cents in sales. Conclusion is that my novels and my marketing don't WOW prospects. Posting free content on LinkedIn and my newsletter sees occasional sales , but nothing to write home about. Conclusion is to drill down the content to a more focused target audience. If I could figure out Amazon Ads while my rank is out there past Jupiter to get the algorithm to shine like the sun on my novels, I would be a happy space traveler. I am now looking at a Kickstarter for a standalone Victorian Mystery. I am finding out what doesn't work and more importantly why. Eventually, I will get some pasta to stick on the plaster. Until then.
It's crazy isn't it? My fb ads are doing quite well for clicks, but they've been up for about 10 days already. I'll let you know the outcome when it's over. Maybe we can trade info.
Love the spaghetti story. Best of luck with your new release!
Thanks Kathleen!
Perfect comparison. I have this picture of you and your father in the kitchen, throwing spaghetti with wild abandon.
That's the way it was! He was great!
I'm with you at throwing spaghetti against the wall. I'm running out of noodles. Who really knows shat works?
What works best is what works for you! Thanks for reading, Carl!
