My Promise for the New Year
Last year, my primary goal was to get an agent contract or publishing deal. I didn't reach the goal. But I did not fail.
For several years, I’ve been setting professional goals for my writing. It helps me find a focus, when there are so many distractions in this industry. It also helps me see which book to spend the most time on, which tutorials and webinars to spend money on, and which marketing projects to pour my energy into.
In 2024, my primary goal was to get an agent or publishing contract for my manuscript Forewarned. I didn't reach the goal. But I did not fail.
2025 is about shifting perspectives.
It feels good to know I have total control over how my book gets out there, what it looks like, and who is involved in the process. I get to decide. And that is power. I have complete control over my work.
This is how I'll share my work with you. Each week I’ll share a short video of my process. Each week, I’ll let you know what work I’m doing toward my release. I’ll share my wins and my failures. And you’ll be the first to see my process unfold like a story.
good for you! The problem with your 2024 was that it wasn't in your control. You succeeded in doing what you could to make it happen, but others were driving the processs. By going indie, you're taking back control. I went this way for my second book, bought back the rights to my first, and have jettisoning those pipe dreams of "agent, publisher, best-sellers list" in favor of enjoying the writing process, writing on my own timetable, writing the book I want to, and commmunicating directly with readers. Welcome to the club!
I know how you feel, Tracey. Sometimes your best writing and all the marketing you do just doesn't lead to traditional publishing. My publisher rejected my next book because SAVING MYLES didn't sell enough copies. So I'm looking for a publisher. I just want to make sure that my top goal is to write the best book I can in 2025. In the end that is what is supposed to count the most in my life. Easy to say and hard to do.
