Music Musings and the Muse: Take one
Do you ever wonder if you're doing it right? If you're following the right clues or asking the right questions. If you're chasing the right muse? It's a question I ask myself every day.
First, let me introduce myself. I am the daughter of an artist. The granddaughter of an acclaimed pianist and the mother of a musician. I am a pianist, artist, decorator, and author of 3 published books (at the time of this post), one mystery/thriller and two Romantic Suspense books. I’ve published a two short stories. Within the archives of my computer I have 5 unpublished manuscripts (The legacy I’m passing on to my children and grandchildren-Not!) written in the last 4 years. I’ve taught piano lessons to students of all ages for 20 years. I’m the founder of Blackbird Writers, a flock of mystery writers.
I realize there’s a lot to unpack there.
Every day I make music, write, edit, or draw. I also cook from scratch and garden in the warm months. The only time my creative brain is still is during shavasana, or when I’m reading. And sometimes it isn’t still, no matter how I try to shut it down.
In this Substack, I hope to share some of my creative process and some of my outlets. My hope is to gain a little insight to my own process. For example, how does drawing trigger the creative brain? How does handwriting my notes for the next book illuminate my characters? How does pantsing the plot help form the story without my general knowledge? (As if the characters live somewhere in the universe and I’m channeling their thoughts and ideas.)
How does the subconscious feed on these activities, and how can I make a creative thread simply by pressing the tip of a pen to the paper.
I welcome your feedback and ideas into the discussion. Please join me as I explore these thoughts and share my creativity.
Someone as creatively talented as you must be right-brained. Right-brainedness runs in families, too, and it's apparent yours is a perfect example. I'm curious about how many of you are left-handed.
All of this musing is fascinating, but, having read your books, I can recommend every one of them as a really excellent read!
Tracey, I look forward to reading about how you unpack all your great questions.
